Nvidia’s announcement of an “Open AI Security Alliance” landed hours after Hugging Face disclosed a breach of over 10,000 model repositories. In crypto terms, this is the equivalent of a centralized exchange forming a “customer protection fund” after a hack—comforting, but structurally flawed. The security community celebrated the promise of open standards. I see a different ledger: a strategic grab for protocol-level control, wrapped in the rhetoric of collaboration.

Context: The Illusion of Openness

Hugging Face is the GitHub of AI models—a hub that hosts millions of pre-trained weights.
